Our History...
The real life challenges faced by the Apel family as they cope with their son Zachary’s illness, along with the Skinner and Hargreaves family, inspired the Law Offices of Platt, Jacobus, Fielding, & Torres in 2003 to form a partnership with CKC Communications, and The Melbourne Professional Firefighters to create a foundation for firefighters’ children, called the Zachary Project. In the beginning the mission was to financially support these three families during their time in need, however in 2006 The Zachary Project was awarded a 501(c)(3) exemption from the Internal Revenue Service and has since vowed to begin helping children across the State of Florida.
The bulk of The Zachary Projects budget comes from fundraising efforts like Golf Tournaments, Fishing Tournaments, 5K Runs and Raffles, however with the financial support of such corporations as: Dicks Sporting Goods, Space Coast Credit Union, The Florida Today and Wal-Mart we are now fortunate enough to begin helping families around the state. Although The Zachary Project is still in our infancy as far as non-profit organizations are concerned, we are extremely ambitious to assist others who are in need and our mission and values will remain resolute!
